They [Millennials] want that relationship and they want to believe that they’re really making an impact on someone’s life, if you can come up with that ingredient, you’re ready to go.

User Research...

Much of human of behavior can be expressed by a simple equation and it looks something like this:

benefit to self + (benefit to others * empathy coefficient) - participation barrier = likelihood to exhibit behavior

I conducted some user testing to figure out which of these variables is the biggest barrier when considering making a charitable contribution. While conducting interviews with a collection of 20–35 year old, middle class users about their standard donation practices, I found that there were several undeniable commonalities in their responses:

  • Uncomfortable with coercion
  • Most willing to give in small increments
  • Important to be familiar with the recipient
  • Low threshold for inconvenience
  • Don’t carry cash

The Idea...

User Journey.jpg

The Give Button is a big, chunky button that lives in your pocket, which transfers a dollar from an account of your choice, to a charity of your choice, at the press of a pleasantly satisfying button.

Application Flow...

The application first leads the use though a brief on-boarding process that includes the creation of login credentials, and the opportunity to link your profile to an account from which you can donate funds. You are then able to browse and search through all of the available charities to find ones you might already like, or to discover new organizations which may be relevant to your interests. Then all you have to do is press the big red button and you’ve started donating.
